Pocket Veto Amendment Act

A
Bill
To

The Parliament of Stratham enacts:

Section 1. Short Title

(1) This Act is the Pocket Veto Amendment Act.

Section 2. Commencement

(1) All Provisions shall come into effect upon passage.

Section 3. Reasoning

Currently, a Prime Minister may choose to simply ignore a bill without vetoing it, thus preventing it from becoming law. This is a large loophole in our system and can easily be abused to circumvent veto overrides by Parliament. This bill will prevent possible pocket vetoes and streamline the legislative process.

Section 4. Amendments

(1) Legislative Branch: The Parliament: Section 4 | Process of Legislature
(a) (XIV) The process of a bill becoming an Act of Parliament is as follows;
(A) Bills will be proposed on discord under bill-creation and on the forums.
(B) 24 hours after the proposal, which can be extended or shortened at the discretion of the Speaker, the bill will be voted on by the Members of Parliament.
(C) Voting will close after 24 hours have passed, which can be extended or shortened at the discretion of the Speaker. In order for a bill to pass, majority support is required. If the bill fails to achieve a majority, it will be rejected.
(D) Once passed, the bill will be put to Prime Minister assent or veto. Beginning at midnight on the closing of the day of posting in bill-approval, the Prime Minister has five days to sign or veto the bill. If the bill is signed in that five-day period, it becomes law. If the Prime Minister declines to either sign or veto it – that is, they do not act on it in any way – then it becomes law without their signature.
