City Co-Mayor Rank
Type of motion: Creation

Elaboration & Reasoning

We, as mayors on BusinessCraft, think that it would be beneficial for cities to be able to appoint a co-mayor. The co-mayor rank would be different from a councillor in multiple ways:

The co-mayor would have similar permissions to a mayor. For example, they could:

-Create city announcement threads on a city’s forum board.

-He/she would be added as an owner of the city’s region.

-He/she would oversee the city if the mayor is gone for an extended period of time.

In addition to this, a co-mayor would become the mayor of a city if:

-The current mayor is fired or resigns for any reason, the co-mayor would step up as the mayor.

The co-mayor would not be recognized as a councillor nor fill a councillor seat in a city. They would be recognized as a separate rank within the city.

I honestly think this is not necessary because
  • People can already create posts under city boards. Mayors could use their forum moderator permissions to apply a City Announcement prefix to any post.
  • The Mayor could request for a council member to be added as the owner, although I don't find this to be necessary as they're already added as members and basically have the exact same permissions as the owner of the regions, they just can't add/remove members.
  • If the mayor is gone for an extended period of time, they could always notify the city council or the city council could just make appropriate and necessary changes.
  • If it's a government-owned city, the city council could always elect an acting mayor among themselves if the current mayor is absent. Not to mention, all city council members are elected and therefore a mayor can't get fired unless they fail to win reelection. And after a new election, a new council would be formed and they would select a mayor among themselves.

As city mayors we would like to have the ability to appoint a co-mayor. We can already see potential use for this in our own cities. However, I don't think that it should be called useless, as you're not a mayor and cannot see most of what goes on behind the scenes in cities. We are city mayors ourselves, and we would make use of this.
