Ode to Apex: Company History and Memorial

Today is the official closure of Apex Butchery. It's bittersweet for me because Apex was my baby for nearly two years, but all good things must come to an end. I feel I've really done my part for the server and proven myself a successful business owner. It's time for me to enjoy retirement and for someone new to start a successful food company for Stratham.

As part of the goodbye, I thought it might be fun to share some stats of the company and to reminisce.

Company History

Photo Album

Apex Butchery was originally named Bargain Butcher at its inception in early April 2020 and was medieval-themed. The product catalog only included raw meats and fish as well as leather, wool, eggs, bonemeal, and feathers. Cooked meats and fish weren't added until May 26th, 2020. Fish, bonemeal, and feathers were eventually phased out because of low sales.

The company was renamed Apex Butchery on May 26th, 2020, but the shops and logo weren't modernized as you know it today until two months later. The Customer Service Center was opened May 14th, 2020 and was the first online order pickup location for several months until the United Tower shop opened August 14th, 2020.

June 2020 saw Apex's first company auctions on BC BID which were a huge success because they were themed and really turned on the theatrics. (I even pretended to be Guy Fieri once.) We held 15 auctions and earned 29,225kr in sales.

July 21st, 2020 was the first introduction of Apex's Deluxe Meats. They were a limited edition, Apex-branded line of cooked and raw marinated meats. They were a HUGE hit and featured some popular favorites such as Spicy Buffalo Wings, Herb-Crusted Rack of Lamb, and Tuna Sashimi.

Apex Butchery was the first for-profit company on BC to reach 100 members in its Discord on August 20th, 2020, just four months after the company started.

On August 30th, 2020 Apex Butchery released its first branded merchandise, Conquest. Subsequent merch sets included Omen, Prism, and the last set, Fortune, was released July 12th 2021.

Apex Butchery was the first and still the only company to offer a subscription service. The program was launched October 21st, 2020, and allowed any member to pay a single fee to receive a box of products automatically for that month at 15% off. The subscription program earned 11,500kr in revenue until its discontinuation three months later.

Orders & Sales

Since April 2020, the Apex Butchery filled over 500 online orders from 133 unique players totaling nearly 200,000kr in revenue. While chestshop sales cannot be tracked, it's safe to estimate the shops made roughly double that over two years.

Online orders were originally made by manually typing in a channel because I was new to Discord and barely knew how it worked. Eventually, I wised up and got Ticket Tool on June 11th, 2020 and automated the entire system through Airtable. That system and database were used up until the closure.

Rewards Club

The Rewards Club launched May 12th, 2020, and was the first of its kind on BC. 46 players joined the Rewards Club by ordering at least 3 times over 100kr in value.

@Matt spent the most of all Rewards Club members at 12,827.88kr over 10 orders. However, @hotshot80915 has the crown for Most Loyal Customer. Not only did he have the most orders of any customer, but he also spent the most in all of Apex history. Hotshot placed 47 orders totaling a whopping 22,240.06kr!

Shops & Property

The company had eight shop locations over its tenure the first of which was in Central Market Mall on the red floor. I happened across an expired rent shop purely by chance which was incredibly rare at the time in April 2020. I attribute Apex's success in the beginning to this stroke of luck.

Apex eventually also opened seven more shops in Oakland Food Market, United Tower (which later became the Apex Outlets), the Royal Atlantis Casino, Ocean City, Lexford, the HQ building in the Warp 3 Village for a short time, and finally in South BC near the Circle.

Employees and Stats

I didn’t run Apex alone. I had some amazing help from dozens of employees over the last two years - simply too many to count. I also had incredible managers and executives such as @SlimeEmperor, @Jeeeeef, @SirKosmo, and of course, @xlayzur. Layzur was instrumental in Apex’s success bringing tons of new ideas to the table since the beginning. He’s even franchised the business in Redmont and - to no surprise - Apex is a huge success there, too.

I, myself, did work my ass off, though. According to my Minecraft Stats:
I bred 35,723 animals.
I killed 19,096 cows, picked up 69,590 pieces of raw beef 53,158 pieces of leather.
I killed 6,377 chickens and picked up 9,113 raw chicken.
I killed 5,838 pigs and picked up 23,860 pieces of raw pork.
I killed 3,152 sheep and picked up 12,426 pieces of raw mutton and 23,568 pices of wool.
I killed 5,514 salmon (by hand).
I killed 5,103 squid and picked up 21,223 ink sacs.

-----------

Since announcing the closure of Apex I've gotten a lot of nice messages and well wishes from the community. Apex certainly had a big impact on my life and my time here on BC. It's really comforting to know so many of you feel the same.

Thank you all, to everyone, who supported Apex in any way. It never would have become the company it was without you. I'm super proud this is the legacy I'll leave in Stratham history.

Working with Apex was one of the best opportunities I’ve had on BC. Although I’m sad to see it close, I know it had a long run as BC’s largest company and it won’t be forgotten
